West Is West

Comedy  United Kingdom

West Is West is a 2010 British comedy-drama film directed by Andy De Emmony and written by Ayub Khan-Din. It is a sequel to the 1999 film East Is East and follows the Khan family trying to survive in Manchester, England, in 1975. The film focuses on Sajid, the youngest son of the family, who is struggling to find his identity as a British-Pakistani teenager.

Sajid's father, George Khan, decides to send him to Pakistan to live with his first wife and daughters in an attempt to teach him about Pakistani traditions and values. However, Sajid is resistant to this idea and finds himself in conflict with his family in Pakistan as well as local bullies.

Meanwhile, George's second wife, Ella, travels to Pakistan to bring Sajid back home. Ella, who is also struggling to find her place in the Khan family, brings with her a group of eccentric friends from Salford, England, who bring their own brand of chaos to the already tumultuous situation.

As the family navigates the cultural differences between England and Pakistan, they also confront their own personal demons and past traumas. The film explores themes of identity, family, and the clash between tradition and modernity.

West Is West features an ensemble cast, including Om Puri as George Khan, Linda Bassett as Ella Khan, Aqib Khan as Sajid, and Ila Arun as George's first wife. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was praised for its humor and heartwarming moments.
