The con artist, Teddy, is played by actor Johnathon Schaech. He is a smooth-talking charmer who spends his days scamming unsuspecting tourists in New York. But when one of his deals goes terribly wrong, Teddy is forced to flee the city and make a new start elsewhere.
He finds himself in the remote Australian town of Woop Woop, a place that couldn't be more different from the glitz and glamour of New York. The town is populated by a colorful cast of characters, including a sexually frustrated nurse, a one-eyed mechanic, and a group of hippies who live in a commune.
At first, Teddy is reluctant to stay in Woop Woop for long, but he quickly becomes enamored with the town's quirky charm. He even falls in love with a local girl named Angie, played by Susie Porter. But just as he begins to settle into his new life, Teddy realizes that something is not quite right in Woop Woop.
Despite the town's idyllic appearance, there are dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. As Teddy begins to uncover the truth about Woop Woop, he realizes that he may have stumbled into a situation that is even more dangerous than the one he left behind in New York.
Welcome to Woop Woop was directed by Stephan Elliott, who is perhaps best known for his work on the 1994 cult classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. The film received mixed reviews upon its release in 1997, but it has since gained a small cult following thanks to its offbeat humor and bizarre characters.
