The North Wind of Change

Comedy  Italy

Welcome to the North is a 2012 Italian comedy film directed by Luca Miniero, and a sequel to the 2008 film Welcome to the South. The film follows the story of two Italian friends, Alberto and Mattia, who live in different parts of Italy. Alberto lives in Milan and works for the Italian Post, while Mattia lives in the small town of Castellabate and works as a postal officer.

Alberto is a workaholic who is focused on improving the efficiency of the Italian Post, while neglecting his wife Silvia. Silvia is frustrated with her husband's lack of attention and begins to feel neglected. Meanwhile, Mattia's wife Maria is constantly pushing him to be more ambitious and make something of himself.

One day, due to a mix-up with their job applications, Mattia is mistakenly transferred to Milan, where he ends up living with Alberto. The two men come from vastly different worlds and clash over their differences. However, they slowly begin to bond over their shared love of food and eventually become close friends.

As the film progresses, Alberto becomes more involved with his work and neglects Silvia even further. Silvia reaches her breaking point and decides to leave Alberto, sending him into a spiral of depression. Meanwhile, Mattia begins to fall in love with a local woman he meets in Milan, but struggles with the idea of leaving his wife back in Castellabate.

Welcome to the North is a heartwarming film about friendship, love, and the importance of slowing down and enjoying life. The film, while primarily a comedy, deals with some heavy themes such as infidelity, depression, and loneliness. The film's cast is made up of some of Italy's best-known actors, including Claudio Bisio, Angela Finocchiaro, and Valentina Lodovini.
