Weekend at Bernie's II picks up where the first film left off, with Larry and Richard still pretending that their deceased boss, Bernie Lomax, is alive in order to cover up their own involvement in his murder. However, they soon discover that Bernie had embezzled millions of dollars before his death and buried the money in a Caribbean island.
Determined to claim the money for themselves, Larry and Richard travel to the island and dig up the buried cash. However, they soon realize that the money is cursed and that Bernie's body is the only thing that can keep the curse at bay. To keep Bernie's body from decomposing, the pair must keep him moving and pretend that he is still alive.
The duo's attempts at propelling Bernie's corpse around the island lead to a series of mishaps and comedic incidents, including a wild dance party and a chase through the jungle. Along the way, they are pursued by a voodoo priestess who wants to use the money for her own purposes, and by a group of criminals who want the money for themselves.
Despite the challenges they face, Larry and Richard remain determined to get the money and escape the island with their lives. However, they soon discover that their greed and dishonesty have unintended consequences, and that Bernie's body may have a mind of its own.
