Weekend at Bernie's Movie Rating

Miracle at Divine Faith Apostolic Church

Comedy  United States of America

The above synopsis is actually incorrect as it pertains to a completely different film, and not to Weekend at Bernie's. Here is a correct synopsis of the film:

Weekend at Bernie's follows the misadventures of two young men, Larry Wilson (Andrew McCarthy) and Richard Parker (Jonathan Silverman), who work for a large insurance company in New York City. When they discover that their boss, Bernie (Terry Kiser), has been embezzling money from the company and that he plans to have them killed to cover up the scheme, Larry and Richard decide to confront him about it.

However, things don't go quite according to plan and Bernie ends up dead - but the two men are determined to enjoy their long-planned weekend getaway to Bernie's beach house anyway. In order to avoid suspicion, they pretend that Bernie is still alive and try to act as though he's just partying along with them.

Their ruse becomes more and more elaborate as they try to maintain the illusion that Bernie is still alive, and they must also attempt to avoid suspicion from various unsavory characters who are still looking for the missing money. Along the way, they also become involved in a love triangle with a young woman named Gwen (Catherine Mary Stewart).

Despite the rather morbid premise, Weekend at Bernie's is actually a slapstick comedy that is known for its quirky humor and zany hijinks. It was released in 1989 and became something of a cult classic, spawning a sequel called Weekend at Bernie's II in 1993.
