John and Jeremy are best friends and divorce mediators who enjoy crashing weddings to pick up women. They have a set of rules they follow to avoid getting caught, including keeping their stories straight and pretending to be part of the wedding party.
At the wedding of the daughter of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury William Cleary, the boys meet Claire, the secretary's other daughter. John is immediately drawn to her but quickly learns she is engaged to another man. Despite this, John and Claire develop a close friendship over the course of the weekend, including sharing a passionate kiss.
After the wedding, John and Jeremy return to their lives but John can't shake his feelings for Claire. He convinces Jeremy to join him on a trip to visit Claire in her hometown, claiming it's to offer their condolences for the recent death of her beloved grandmother.
