"We Have Always Lived in the Castle" is a 2018 Horror/Mystery movie directed by Stacie Passon and adapted from Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name. The movie stars Taissa Farmiga, Alexandra Daddario, and Crispin Glover.
The story revolves around the Blackwood family, who live in an isolated mansion after several members of their family were killed by arsenic poisoning six years ago. Merricat (Taissa Farmiga), the youngest survivor of the poisoning, lives with her older sister Constance (Alexandra Daddario) and their uncle Julian (Crispin Glover). The three keep to themselves, practicing rituals and avoiding visits from the outside world.
One day, a distant cousin, Charles (Sebastian Stan), comes to visit and quickly begins to invade the Blackwood's privacy. Charles tries to exploit the family's wealth, but Merricat has a plan to get rid of him, using her magic talismans and rituals to protect her family. As the tensions in the house rise and secrets are uncovered, the Blackwood family's past is revealed, and their isolation becomes both a protection and curse.
