Betrayed by Trust: A Journey Home

The film Way Back Home is a South Korean drama, based on a true story of a young Korean woman who travels to France with her young daughter in search of her husband, who has left her penniless after a failed business venture. After landing in Paris, she is arrested by the French police on suspicions of drug trafficking, after authorities find 30 kilograms of cocaine in her luggage. Unable to speak French and with no contacts in the country, she is forced to serve time in prison while awaiting trial.

The film explores the challenges faced by the protagonist, Jeong Yoon played by Jeon Do-yeon, as she tries to clear her name and reunite with her husband and daughter. Along the way, she faces legal and cultural barriers, as well as the harsh realities of prison life. Through her struggles, we see the strength of her character and the depths of her love for her family as she fights to clear her name and return home.

Directed by Bang Eun-jin and released in 2013, the film received critical acclaim for its captivating storyline and powerful performances. It was selected as South Korea's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards.
