The Chinese emissary, named Lai Xi, is sent by the emperor to the Gobi desert to track down and execute a former soldier named Cao Er-Hu, who has become a bandit and is causing trouble in the region. Meanwhile, a caravan carrying a sacred Buddhist artifact, the Tang Dynasty Relics, and a young monk named Liang is traveling through the desert and is targeted by a group of thieves led by the treacherous Warlord An.
When Lai Xi and Cao Er-Hu cross paths, they initially clash in a brutal fight but eventually strike a deal to team up to protect the caravan and defeat the thieves. Along the way, they are aided by a brave widow named Wen Zhu, who runs a tea house in the desert and has her own personal vendetta against Warlord An.
As they journey through the harsh and unforgiving terrain, the group faces numerous challenges including deadly sandstorms and hungry wolves. However, they persevere and eventually reach their destination, a remote fortress where they must confront Warlord An and his army of mercenaries in a final showdown.
In the end, the group emerges victorious and the Tang Dynasty Relics are safely returned to their rightful owners. Lai Xi and Cao Er-Hu go their separate ways, but not before gaining a mutual respect for each other as warriors and human beings.
