Once they meet the advanced alien race, the humans are taken to their underwater city, where they discover that the Atlanteans have incredible technology, including a powerful energy source called "Firestones." However, they also learn that the Atlanteans are planning to invade the surface world and enslave the human race.
The humans, led by Prof. Aitken and his son, team up with a group of rebels among the Atlanteans, who oppose the invasion plan of their rulers. Together, they try to stop the Atlanteans from using their technology to subjugate the surface world.
The underwater city of Atlantis is depicted as a stunning, beautiful place, with impressive architecture and glowing tunnels. The Atlanteans themselves are depicted as a highly advanced and sophisticated people, with skills in science, medicine, and art.
The journey takes the humans through many perilous adventures, including fights with sea monsters and battles against the Atlantean soldiers. In the end, they are able to stop the Atlanteans and escape back to the surface world.
Warlords of Atlantis was released in 1978 and directed by Kevin Connor. It starred Doug McClure, Peter Gilmore, and Cyd Charisse. The film received mixed reviews upon release, but has since gained a cult following and is considered a classic of the fantasy-adventure genre.
