Beaudray Demerille is an experienced cardsharp who lives a life of adventure and thrill-seeking, moving from town to town. He is a middle-aged man with nothing to lose, until he meets Wanda Nevada. Wanda is a young and fiery 13-year-old who is looking for her father, a famous miner who disappeared years ago. Beaudray agrees to help her find him, but only because he hopes to bring in some cash.
As they travel through the vast deserts of Nevada and Arizona, Beaudray and Wanda slowly develop a bond. Beaudray begins to see Wanda as a daughter figure, and she sees him as a surrogate father. However, their quest takes a dangerous turn when they discover a treasure map that is coveted by a pair of ruthless crooks. Beaudray and Wanda must fight to keep the map and the treasure for themselves, while also keeping each other safe.
