Walker is a 1987 biographical-historical film directed by Alex Cox about the American soldier of fortune William Walker and his attempt to take over and govern Nicaragua in the 1850s. It stars Ed Harris in the title role, as well as Richard Masur, René Auberjonois, Peter Boyle, and Marlee Matlin in supporting roles.

The film begins with the day-to-day struggles of Walker as a drifter and lawyer in San Francisco, before he decides to become a "filibuster" and form a private army to conquer and rule over Nicaragua. He is initially supported by a group of wealthy men who believe he can use the country as a staging ground for a North American empire, but soon finds himself embroiled in a complex political and military situation.

Walker's ultimate goal is to establish a democratic government in Nicaragua, but his actions and policies are often cruel and arbitrary. He orders the execution of his opponents, confiscates land and property, and attempts to install an authoritarian regime, which leads to tension with other Central American nations. He also becomes increasingly paranoid and unstable, leading to his eventual downfall.

The film received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising its historical accuracy and political relevance, while others criticized its lack of character development and confusing narrative. Despite its flaws, Walker remains a unique and controversial film about the intersection of imperialism, democracy, and personal ambition.
