Waitress is a 2007 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Adrienne Shelly, who also wrote the screenplay and acted in the film. The film revolves around Jenna, a young woman who is dissatisfied with her life as a waitress and her unhappy marriage to Earl, an abusive and controlling man.

Jenna discovers that she is pregnant and feels even more trapped in her unhappy life. She finds solace in baking pies, which she sees as a form of escape, using her creativity to create new recipes and combinations of flavors. She enters a pie baking contest with the hopes of winning the prize money, which she intends to use to leave Earl and start a new life with her baby.

But Jenna's plans are upended when she meets Dr. Pomatter, a new doctor in town who begins treating her at the local clinic. Despite being married himself, he and Jenna begin a secret affair that provides both of them with the happiness they've been missing in their own lives.

Jenna confides in her two best friends and fellow waitresses, Becky and Dawn, who are dealing with their own relationship problems. The three of them bond over their shared struggles and support each other through the difficult times.

As Jenna's due date approaches, she must confront the reality of her situation: a difficult decision lies ahead, and she must choose between leaving Earl and starting a new life or remaining in an unhappy marriage. Ultimately, she finds the strength to make a decision that is best for her and her baby.

Waitress was critically acclaimed for its performances, particularly Keri Russell's portrayal of Jenna, and its poignant and heartfelt story about the struggles women face in their pursuit of happiness and self-fulfillment.
