The movie follows Adeline (played by Sophie Lowe), a young girl who dreams of becoming a trapeze artist. After the death of her father, she receives a letter that he wrote to her before he passed away. The letter leads her to a gold mine in a remote California desert, where she meets a mysterious and eccentric old man named Balthazar (played by Willie Nelson).
Balthazar tells Adeline that he has been waiting for her to arrive and helps her to unravel the secrets of the gold mine. As they explore the mine together, Adeline begins to realize that there is much more to the old man than she ever could have imagined.
Along the way, Adeline also meets a struggling couple (played by Darby Camp and George Young) who are trying to save their failing circus. As Adeline delves deeper into the secrets of the gold mine, she discovers a connection between the mine and the couple's circus.
