Waiting for Guffman is a mockumentary-style comedy film released in 1996, directed by Christopher Guest and written by Guest and Eugene Levy. The film is set in the small town of Blaine, Missouri, and follows its residents as they try to put on an elaborate musical to celebrate the town's 150th anniversary.

Corky St. Clair (Christopher Guest) is a local theater director and aspiring Broadway performer who is tasked with directing the musical. His troupe of actors includes a dentist (Eugene Levy), a travel agent (Catherine O'Hara), and a Dairy Queen employee (Parker Posey).

As the deadline for the show approaches, tensions rise and egos clash as Corky's extravagant ideas meet resistance from the amateur performers. The group struggles to rehearse their musical while dealing with personal issues and complicated romantic relationships, further complicating the production.

Ultimately, the musical is a disaster, and Corky's dreams of making it to Broadway are crushed. However, the residents of Blaine come together to put on a heartfelt tribute to their town and its history.
