Surviving the Spotlight: A Tale of Tragedy and Triumph

Drama,Music  United States of America

The film opens with the traumatic event in 1999, during which Celeste and Eleanor are at school when a mass shooting takes place. They hide in a closet, but not all of their classmates survive. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the sisters write and perform a song that becomes an anthem for a grieving nation.

The film then jumps forward to 2017, where Celeste, now played by Natalie Portman, is a successful pop star known for her provocative image, controversial lyrics, and public scandals. She is in the midst of planning a concert tour when another act of violence occurs, this time a terrorist attack at one of her shows in Croatia.

As Celeste deals with the fallout from the attack and struggles to maintain her image and handle her personal life, the film examines the toll that fame and trauma have taken on her. It also explores the relationship between Celeste and her daughter, Albertine, and the generational divide between them.

Throughout the film, music plays a central role, with original songs performed by Portman and composed by Sia. The soundtrack also includes songs by artists like Ellie Goulding and Robyn.

Vox Lux is a provocative and unsettling exploration of fame, trauma, and the American zeitgeist. It was directed by Brady Corbet, who was inspired by the rise of pop stars like Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.
