Lucky Jackson is played by Elvis Presley, who is also a talented singer. The movie takes place in Las Vegas and features many of Presley's iconic songs, including the title track "Viva Las Vegas" which is played during the famous race scene.
While in town, Lucky falls for Rusty Martin, the swimming pool manageress played by Ann-Margret. Their romance is complicated by Lucky's need to focus on the race, and Rusty's reluctance to get involved with a racer due to her past experiences with Elmo Mancini.
Lucky's rival, Elmo, is played by Cesare Danova and is a wealthy and successful racer who uses his charm and money to win over women. He also uses unsportsmanlike tactics to try to sabotage Lucky's chances in the race.
After misplacing his race funds, Lucky gets a job as a waiter at the hotel where Rusty works in order to earn the money back. While working, he also manages to practice for the race, including an iconic scene where he dances and sings with Ann-Margret while working at the restaurant.
The race scene itself is a highlight of the movie, with Lucky and Elmo competing head-to-head in a thrilling race around the city. In the end, Lucky wins the race and Rusty's heart.
Viva Las Vegas was released in 1964 and was a box office success, cementing Elvis Presley's status as a movie and music icon.
