Violentia is a Canadian science-fiction movie set in a dystopian future. The protagonist of the story is Dr. Adam Anderson, a brilliant scientist who has just lost his daughter in a school shooting incident. The shooter, a young man named Todd Belkin, also dies in the attack.
Determined to prevent further violence and save other families from going through what he has, Dr. Anderson channels his grief into his research and creates a revolutionary new technology using nano-robots. He believes that by using this technology to observe the memories of psychopaths, he can identify the root causes of their violence and develop a cure for violent behavior.
Dr. Anderson uses this new technology to enter the mind of Todd Belkin and examine his memories. This leads him on a journey through Todd's past, including his troubled childhood and abusive family life, as well as his disturbing motivations for the shooting.
As Dr. Anderson continues his research, he becomes more obsessed with his work, blurring the line between right and wrong. His wife, who also happens to be a scientist and works with him, becomes increasingly concerned with his mental state and his newfound power.
The movie delves into the deeper questions around the nature of violence and the ethics of using technology to manipulate someone's memories. It ultimately leaves the audience with a sense of ambiguity and moral complexity, forcing them to grapple with the often-uncomfortable truths about the workings of the human mind.
