The "genius" who accidentally invents the "goo" is a teenage boy named Mike. While conducting experiments in his home laboratory, he creates a powerful substance that causes plants and animals to grow to massive sizes. He names it "Goo" and shows it off to some of his friends, including a group of delinquent teenagers led by a brash young man named Freddy.
Freddy sees an opportunity to use the Goo to gain power and riches. He and his friends steal the substance from Mike and decide to consume it themselves, believing that it will make them invincible. However, they soon discover that the Goo has an unexpected side effect - it causes them to grow to enormous proportions.
The now-giant teenagers cause chaos and destruction throughout the town, terrorizing the locals and causing widespread panic. The only hope of stopping them is the local sheriff, who happens to be the father of the young woman kidnapped by the giants.
