Vantage Point is a 2008 political action thriller movie directed by Pete Travis. The movie starts with the assassination attempt at an anti-terrorism summit in Salamanca, Spain where the American president, Ashton, is delivering a speech. The story is then retold from eight different perspectives, each one revealing new details and suspects.
The first perspective is that of a TV news producer, Rex Brooks (played by Sigourney Weaver). She directs the live broadcast of the event, including the assassination attempt, and becomes embroiled in a conspiracy when she realizes that the footage has been tampered with.
The second perspective is that of a Secret Service agent, Thomas Barnes (played by Dennis Quaid). He is one of the agents responsible for protecting the president and is the first to act when shots are fired. However, he is wounded in the incident and tries to piece together the events that led to the assassination attempt.
The third perspective is that of a tourist, Howard Lewis (played by Forest Whitaker). He is recording the events on his camcorder when the shooting occurs; however, he becomes an unwitting participant in the conspiracy when he inadvertently captures evidence that could identify the perpetrators.
The fourth perspective is that of the president's chief of staff, William Cabot (played by William Hurt). He oversees the anti-terrorism summit and is implicated in the conspiracy when it is revealed that he has a personal connection to one of the terrorists.
The remaining perspectives are those of various other characters, including a Spanish police officer, a terrorist sniper, and the president himself, all of whom are involved in the assassination attempt in one way or another.
As the story unfolds, the viewer is brought closer to the truth about what really happened and who was behind the assassination attempt. The movie ends with a thrilling car chase and a final twist that reveals the true mastermind behind the conspiracy.
