After the incident with the thugs, Caroline and Adam become closer. Caroline is initially hesitant to trust Adam because of his shy and quirky behavior, but she eventually comes to appreciate his kindness and sincere interest in her. However, she soon discovers that Adam is not like most people. He refuses to take off his oversized coat, even in warm weather, and he has a rare heart condition that requires him to have a transplant.
Despite her initial shock, Caroline stands by Adam and helps him in his quest to find a donor. They go on dates and enjoy each other's company, but their relationship is not without its challenges. Caroline's ex-boyfriend Randy (played by Christian Slater) is jealous of Adam and tries to sabotage their romance at every turn. Meanwhile, Adam is haunted by memories of his abusive childhood and struggles to open up to Caroline about his past.
As the film progresses, the couple faces a number of setbacks, including Adam's deteriorating health and Randy's attempts to cause trouble. However, Caroline and Adam's love persists, and they ultimately find a way to overcome their obstacles. The film ends on a bittersweet note, with Adam's fate uncertain but Caroline committed to carrying on his legacy.
