Danny, played by Jet Li, is a skilled fighter who has been trained since childhood by his "master" Bart, played by Bob Hoskins. Bart uses Danny as his pet fighter in underground fight clubs, where he is unbeatable. Bart also keeps Danny on a tight leash with a collar that he controls with a remote.
After a car accident that disables Bart's crew, Danny manages to escape and runs into a blind piano tuner named Sam, played by Morgan Freeman. Sam takes him in and helps him recover from his injuries while also introducing him to the world of music.
Danny becomes fascinated with the piano and starts playing it himself, eventually discovering that he has a natural talent for it. Sam encourages him to pursue his passion for music, which helps Danny to find a sense of identity beyond being a fighter.
However, Bart is hot on Danny's trail and wants to reclaim his prized fighter at any cost. As Bart closes in on Danny, he must decide whether to continue fighting for his survival or embrace his newfound love of music and let go of his violent past.
The film was directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Luc Besson, who also produced it. It was released in 2005 and received positive reviews for its blend of action and drama and for Li's performance.
