Une Chambre en Ville is a French musical drama film directed by Jacques Demy and released in 1982. The film is set in Nantes in the year 1955, during a time of political unrest and industrial action.

The story revolves around a young worker named François (played by Richard Berry), who lives in a boarding house owned by a middle-class family. François becomes infatuated with Edith (played by Dominique Sanda), the daughter of his landlady. Though she is engaged to a wealthy businessman, Edith soon finds herself drawn to François' working-class charm and begins an affair with him.

As the strike escalates, tensions mount between the workers and the authorities, leading to clashes and violence in the streets. Meanwhile, François and Edith's relationship becomes increasingly intense, but their class differences and Edith's engagement threaten to tear them apart.

Une Chambre en Ville is known for its visually striking set design and costumes, as well as its blend of traditional French chanson music with modern rock and roll. The film was not a commercial success upon its release, but has since gained a cult following and is considered a classic of French cinema.
