The former Smokejumper in the movie Two Yellow Lines is named Jack, and he is no longer at the top of his game. After leaving his job as a firefighter years ago, he has become a lonely alcoholic who spends most of his days sitting on his front porch in rural Montana. However, when he receives a phone call from his estranged teenage daughter, Liz, he is forced to confront his past and present.
Liz, who he has not seen in years, is desperate to escape her current living situation and asks Jack to ride with her a thousand miles to her mother's house. Along the way, they encounter several challenges, including encounters with dangerous people, mechanical issues with Jack's motorcycle, and emotional turmoil as they attempt to reconnect.
As they ride together, Jack and Liz both must confront their own demons and come to terms with the mistakes they have made in their past. Through their conversations and experiences, they gradually find common ground and start to rebuild their relationship.
