Two Rode Together is a 1961 Western film directed by John Ford and starring James Stewart and Richard Widmark. The movie tells the story of two men, Marshal Guthrie McCabe (Stewart) and First Lt. Jim Gary (Widmark), who are hired by a wealthy businessman named Amos de Vries to bring back a group of white settlers who have been living with the Comanche for years.

McCabe and Gary are reluctant to take on the task at first, as they know that the hostages have been fully assimilated into the Comanche way of life and may not want to return to their old lives. However, they eventually agree to the job and set out on their mission.

When they arrive at the Comanche camp, they find that the settlers have indeed adapted to their new way of life and are unwilling to leave. One of the settlers, a woman named Elena de la Madriaga, has even fallen in love with a Comanche warrior named Buffalo Horn. Despite their reluctance to leave, McCabe and Gary manage to convince some of the settlers to return with them, including the young son of a wealthy businessman.

On their way back, the group is attacked by a group of Comanche warriors who are unhappy with the loss of their hostages. Despite the danger, McCabe and Gary manage to lead the settlers to safety and return them to their families. However, the experience leaves McCabe disillusioned with the whole venture and he decides to leave the town and go back to his old life.

Overall, Two Rode Together explores themes of cultural assimilation, identity, and the complexities of the Wild West era. The movie was not a commercial success upon its release, but has since been recognized as one of Ford's most thought-provoking Westerns.
