In "Twixt," the struggling writer, Hall Baltimore (played by Val Kilmer), arrives in a sleepy town on a book tour to promote his latest horror novel. The town is a strange mix of old-fashioned and modern, with a clock tower that only chimes "twixt" (between) day and night, and a large hotel that used to be a Civil War hospital.
As he tries to come up with a new book idea, Baltimore becomes fascinated by the town's unsettling history, as well as the young ghostly girl, V (played by Elle Fanning), who appears to him in his dreams. He also meets Sheriff Bobby LaGrange (played by Bruce Dern), who reluctantly tells him about the recent brutal murder of a local girl.
Baltimore finds himself pulled into the murder mystery, and his visions of V lead him on a surreal journey through time and memory, as he tries to solve the crime and uncover the truth about the town's dark past.
Along the way, Baltimore also battles his own inner demons, including his alcoholism and guilt over his failed marriage and career. As his investigation unfolds, he must face the ultimate choice: Will he embrace the darkness and become a true horror writer, or find redemption and move on from his past failures?
