Twins of Evil is a horror film released in 1971 and directed by John Hough. The film is set in the late 18th century in Europe and centers around the evil Count Karstein, who is dabbling in Satanism and has resurrected Mircalla Karnstein, a powerful and seductive vampire, after discovering an ancient tome of black magic in his library.
Mircalla initiates Karstein into the ways of vampirism and induces him into turning other women into vampires. The village where Karstein and Mircalla reside is soon plagued by a series of mysterious deaths that the locals attribute to witchcraft. Gustav, the leader of the local Puritan group, takes it upon himself to rid the village of the "pestilence" and leads his men in a hunt for the witches responsible.
As Gustav and his men search for the witches, they mistakenly accuse Maria, one of Gustav's twin nieces, of practicing witchcraft and plan to torture her to obtain a confession. Meanwhile, Maria's twin sister, Frieda, has become a willing participant in Karstein and Mircalla's vampire cult and is free to continue engaging in their depraved acts.
The tension between the two sisters, Gustav's ultimate goal of rooting out the witches responsible for the village's troubles, and the involvement of the powerful vampire Mircalla all culminate in a thrilling climax that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
