Bella Swan moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father. She is initially unhappy about the move, but she soon meets a group of students, including the mysterious and aloof Edward Cullen. Edward and his family are vampires who have been "vegetarian" for years, meaning they don't feed on humans but instead hunt animals for sustenance.
Despite the danger that comes with being a human in love with a vampire, Bella and Edward fall deeply in love. However, their relationship is complicated by the fact that there are other vampires who do not have the same moral code as the Cullens. One group, led by the evil James, decides they want to hunt Bella for sport. With the help of the Cullen family and her friend Jacob, who is a werewolf, Bella must fight to stay alive.
Twilight is the first in a series of four books in the Twilight saga written by Stephenie Meyer. The movie adaptation was released in 2008 and was directed by Catherine Hardwicke. It stars Kristen Stewart as Bella and Robert Pattinson as Edward. The movie was a massive success and grossed over $400 million worldwide. It spawned four more movies in the franchise: New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn - Part 1, and Breaking Dawn - Part 2.
