Turn of the Cheek follows the story of the Stevens family, a black couple who have lived a peaceful life in their community. However, one fateful day, their teenage son is murdered during a robbery. The perpetrator, a young man named Marcus, is caught and sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Several years later, the Stevens family is approached by Marcus's mother, who brings her son's young son, Noah, to the couple. She pleads with them to take him in and give him a good life, as she is unable to care for him properly. The Stevens family is conflicted, particularly the mother, who sees taking in Noah as a way to honor her son's memory.
However, the father, Samuel, is vehemently against the idea. He cannot bear the thought of raising the child of his son's killer and worries that it would be disrespectful to his own son's memory. Samuel's reluctance causes tension in the family, made worse by the fact that the murderer, Marcus, is still in prison and has not yet served his full sentence.
As the family struggles to come to a decision, they must navigate the legal system and deal with opposition from Marcus's father who is against the adoption. Meanwhile, Noah begins to form a bond with the Stevens' daughter, Brianna, which further complicates matters.
