The passenger who is an airplane engineer is named Martin. He is seated in the back of the plane when the hijackers take over. The hijackers demand that the plane be diverted to a location where they can release their deadly chemical weapon. When the pilot resists, they kill him and threaten to kill everyone on board if their demands are not met.
Martin is quickly identified by the hijackers as someone who could be useful in their plot. He is forced to work under threat of death to help disarm the bomb. Martin is able to buy some time by convincing the hijackers that the bomb is more complex than it actually is.
As the situation on the plane becomes more tense, Martin must use his knowledge and resources to stop the hijackers and save the passengers. He enlists the help of a flight attendant, Teri Halloran, who is sympathetic to his plight.
Together, they work to disarm the bomb, using everything at their disposal, including a maintenance manual and their own ingenuity. With time running out, they race against the clock to stop the hijackers before it is too late.
