The film True Crimes is a 2016 thriller starring Jim Carrey as Tadek, a grizzled detective working in Poland. Tadek becomes obsessed with solving an unsolved murder case and begins to suspect a famous author named Kozlov (played by Marton Csokas) may have been involved in the crime. Kozlov had written a novel that eerily mirrored details of the crime, leading Tadek to believe he may have based the story on his own experiences.
As Tadek delves deeper into the case, he becomes entangled in a web of secrets and lies, and discovers a disturbing connection between the author and the victim. With the help of a young reporter (played by Charlotte Gainsbourg), Tadek struggles to uncover the truth behind the murder and bring the killer to justice.
True Crimes is a dark and brooding film, with Carrey delivering a powerful performance as the troubled detective haunted by his own demons. The movie is based on a true story and was adapted from a New Yorker article titled "True Crimes: A Postmodern Murder Mystery" by David Grann.
