Drama  United States of America

True Colors is a 1991 drama film directed by Herbert Ross, starring John Cusack and James Spader. The film revolves around two friends, Peter Burton (Cusack) and Tim Gerrity (Spader), who meet in law school. Peter comes from a wealthy family and has political ambitions, while Tim is raised in working-class family and is more idealistic.

After they graduate, Tim becomes a public defender, representing the poor and the oppressed. Peter, on the other hand, takes a job at the Justice Department and becomes a rising star under the guidance of Senator Stiles (Richard Widmark). Peter is soon confronted with a moral dilemma when he discovers that Stiles and other high-ranking officials are involved in a corruption scandal. Peter must decide whether to protect his career or do what is right.

Meanwhile, Tim becomes involved in local politics, running for district attorney against Peter's fiancée, Diana (Imogen Stubbs). As the election heats up, Tim uncovers a scandal involving Diana's family and must decide whether to use it against her. The election becomes a battle of ideals between Tim and Diana, while Peter's loyalty and integrity are put to the test.

True Colors is a thought-provoking film about the clash between idealism and pragmatism, and the compromises that people make in order to achieve their goals. The film features outstanding performances by Cusack and Spader, who both bring depth and nuance to their respective characters. The film is a powerful reminder of the importance of honesty and integrity in public life, and the consequences that follow when these values are compromised.
