The movie Troy is a loose adaptation of Homer's epic poem, the Iliad, which tells the story of the Trojan War. The movie begins with the love affair between Paris (played by Orlando Bloom) and Helen (played by Diane Kruger), which leads to the invasion of Troy by the Greeks. Helen is considered to be the most beautiful woman in the world, and her abduction by Paris is seen as an insult to her husband, Menelaus (played by Brendan Gleeson), king of Sparta.
When Menelaus discovers that his wife has been taken to Troy, he enlists the help of his brother, Agamemnon (played by Brian Cox), king of Mycenae, to launch a war against the Trojans. Agamemnon sees this as an opportunity to expand his empire and recruits warriors from all over Greece to fight in the war. The most famous warrior among them is Achilles (played by Brad Pitt), who is said to be invincible in battle.
The Greeks land their ships on the shores of Troy and begin a siege that lasts for ten years. The movie portrays the brutal realities of war, with scenes of bloody battles, treachery, and betrayal. The Trojans are led by King Priam (played by Peter O'Toole) and his sons Hector (played by Eric Bana) and Paris. Hector is portrayed as a noble warrior, who fights to defend his city and his family, while Paris is shown as a selfish prince, who cares only for himself and his lover.
As the war drags on, Achilles becomes disillusioned with Agamemnon's leadership and decides to fight on his own terms. He is challenged to a one-on-one duel by Hector, which ends in Hector's death at Achilles' hands. This sets off a chain of events that leads to the final battle between the Greeks and the Trojans.
In the end, Troy falls to the Greeks, but not without a heavy cost. Many beloved characters die, including Hector, Priam, and Achilles. The movie ends with the Greeks sailing back home, leaving behind a devastated city and a legacy of war and destruction.
