In addition to Dr. Brockton's discovery, the film follows the story of television reporter, Joan Mercer, who views the troglodyte as a sensational scoop to boost her career. Joan's ruthless ambition puts the troglodyte in danger as she convinces Dr. Brockton to let her exhibit him at a carnival. Trog, as he is named, becomes agitated and goes on a rampage, causing chaos and destruction. Dr. Brockton races against time to communicate with Trog and prevent him from being killed by the authorities. As Trog's intelligence grows, he forms a bond with Dr. Brockton, but his presence continues to create fear and hysteria in the town. Ultimately, Dr. Brockton must decide what is best for Trog as she faces pressures from both the land developer and the media. The movie is a unique blend of science fiction, horror, and social commentary on the treatment of non-human animals.
