The mother, named Allison, is struggling to come to terms with her daughter's suicide. She is haunted by questions about why her daughter did it and what was going on in her mind that led her to that tragic end. One day, she meets a therapist named Dr. Shauna, who is unconventional in her methods.
Dr. Shauna offers Allison a hallucinogenic drug called 'Ibogaine' which is said to allow communion with the dead. Allison is hesitant at first but eventually agrees to take it in the hope of understanding her daughter's psyche. She takes the drug and soon finds herself transported to a strange and surreal world that resembles her daughter's experiences.
What follows is a terrifying journey through her daughter's last moments, as Allison is forced to confront her own guilt and sorrow. She is tormented by visions of her daughter's death and by the knowledge that she could not save her. As the drug wears off, Allison is left to grapple with the profound lessons she has learned and decide how she wants to move forward with her life.
