Trick 'r Treat is a 2007 horror-comedy anthology film, written and directed by Michael Dougherty. It is set in a small town where four interwoven stories take place on Halloween night.
The first story follows a school principal, Mr. Wilkins, who is also a serial killer. He murders a young woman and disposes of her body in a large sack. However, a trick-or-treater catches him in the act. Wilkins decides to take the child trick-or-treating, using their anonymity to his advantage.
The second story centers around a college virgin named Laurie, who finally meets a boy she likes at a Halloween party. The two of them go outside to carve a pumpkin together, but things take a sinister turn when the boy reveals his true identity.
The third story follows a group of teenagers who think it would be funny to play a prank on a senile old man named Kreeg. They steal his candy and vandalize his house. However, they soon realize that Kreeg is not as defenseless as they thought.
The final story centers around a bitter old recluse named Kreeg who receives an uninvited guest on Halloween night. The guest is revealed to be Sam, a supernatural creature who embodies the spirit of Halloween. Kreeg quickly learns that Sam is not someone to be trifled with.
The film is unique in its use of non-linear storytelling, with the four stories intertwining and overlapping in unexpected ways. Trick 'r Treat has since gained a cult following and is considered a modern Halloween classic.
