In Transformers: Age of Extinction, humanity continues to recover from the devastating battles between the Autobots and Decepticons that occurred in the previous films. However, a new threat emerges in the form of a Transformer bounty hunter named Lockdown, who is hunting down both Autobots and Decepticons for his own purposes.
Meanwhile, a group of scientists led by Joshua Joyce (played by Stanley Tucci) has discovered a way to create their own Transformers using a mysterious metal called Transformium. Joyce's goal is to create an army of perfect machines that can be controlled by humans, but his plans quickly spiral out of control.
The story also follows the adventures of a new cast of human characters, including Cade Yeager (played by Mark Wahlberg), a struggling inventor who discovers a damaged Optimus Prime and helps the Autobots on their mission; Tessa (played by Nicola Peltz), Cade's daughter who becomes involved in the conflict; and Shane (played by Jack Reynor), Tessa's boyfriend who happens to be a skilled race car driver.
As the plot unfolds, we learn that Lockdown is working for a powerful Transformer called Galvatron, who is actually a reincarnation of the Decepticon leader Megatron. Galvatron has his own plans for Earth and the human race, and it's up to the Autobots and their human allies to stop him before it's too late.
The film features plenty of action and spectacle, as well as some deeper themes about the relationship between humans and technology. It also sets up several new plot threads that would be explored in subsequent Transformers films.
