Cracking the Case: Marie Jouvet's Trail of Mystery

Crime,Comedy  United States of America,United Kingdom

"Trail of the Pink Panther" was released in 1982, directed by Blake Edwards, and starred Peter Sellers (posthumously) and Joanna Lumley. The movie was a tribute to Peter Sellers, who had passed away in 1980, and the character of Jacques Clouseau, which he had made famous in the "Pink Panther" series of films.

In the movie, the Pink Panther diamond is stolen once again from the fictional Middle Eastern country of Lugash. Chief Inspector Clouseau (played by Sellers) is called in from France to investigate the theft. However, his plane disappears in mid-air, and he is presumed dead.

Famous French TV reporter Marie Jouvet (played by Lumley) is assigned to cover the story, and soon she becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Clouseau. She starts to interview everyone who was connected to Clouseau, from his former boss, Dreyfus (Herbert Lom), to his former love interest, Simone (Capucine). As she delves deeper into the case, she uncovers several surprising secrets about Clouseau's past and personal life.

The movie features several flashback scenes with Peter Sellers as Clouseau, taken from previous "Pink Panther" films. Other members of the original cast, including David Niven and Robert Wagner, also make brief appearances in flashback scenes.

"Trail of the Pink Panther" was not a critical or commercial success, as many fans of the series were disappointed that Sellers did not actually appear in any new scenes. It was followed by two more "Pink Panther" movies in the 1980s, both of which starred Roger Moore as a new character, rather than attempting to replace Sellers as Clouseau.
