After the arrest of Colombian drug lord, Luis Cali, by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), his vengeful son, Luis Cali, Jr., decides to take hostages at the prestigious Regis High School, an exclusive prep school for boys in the Northeastern United States.
With the help of a corrupt DEA agent, Ernesto, Cali Jr. and his heavily armed henchmen infiltrate the school and take the students and faculty hostage. While Cali Jr. demands the release of his father, the students, led by senior Billy Tepper (played by Sean Astin), decide to fight back against their captors and prevent them from escaping.
The students use their knowledge of the school's layout and technology to devise a plan to take down the kidnappers. Along with Billy, some of the other students include Joey Trotta (Wil Wheaton), a troublemaker with a talent for hacking, Hank Giles (Keith Coogan), the class clown turned hero, and Jonathan "Snuffy" Bradberry (T.E. Russell), the school's computer whiz.
As the situation intensifies and the students' attempts to take back their school become more dangerous, they must also navigate their own conflicts and personal challenges. Meanwhile, the DEA tries to figure out a way to safely end the hostage situation and bring Cali Jr. to justice.
