The movie follows a French intelligence agent named Andre Devereaux who is sent on a mission to Cuba in the wake of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis to uncover Soviet spy activities.

Devereaux becomes embroiled in a dangerous web of espionage as he tries to identify a rogue Soviet agent who may be working with the Cuban government. Along the way, he teams up with an American CIA agent named Michael Nordstrom, and they uncover a plot involving a Soviet spy ring that has infiltrated high levels of the French government.

The film features an international cast, including Frederic Stafford as Andre Devereaux, John Forsythe as Michael Nordstrom, Dany Robin as Nicole Devereaux, and Michel Piccoli as Jacques Granville. The movie also includes cameos from well-known actors such as Claude Jade and Philippe Noiret.

Throughout the film, Hitchcock employs his signature suspenseful and stylish direction, using techniques such as split-screen editing and extended takes to build tension and ratchet up the suspense. The movie was a commercial disappointment upon its release, but it has since garnered a cult following among fans of Hitchcock and Cold War-era spy films.
