In Tone-Deaf, the woman named Olive is played by Amanda Crew. She is emotionally shattered after her recent breakup, and her job loss adds to her misery. In an attempt to escape her problems, she decides to rent a house in the country for a weekend. The owner of the house is a widowed retiree named Harvey, played by Robert Patrick.

Harvey has some eccentricities, such as a collection of old weapons and taxidermied animals, but Olive initially dismisses them as harmless quirks. However, as the weekend progresses, Harvey's true intentions become apparent, as he becomes increasingly unstable and homicidal. He sees Olive as a representation of the younger generation that he despises, and he sets out to teach her a lesson.

Meanwhile, Olive struggles to escape from the increasingly dangerous situation and confronts her own shortcomings that led her to this point in life. As the two generations collide, the tension builds to a terrifying climax in which survival is uncertain.

Tone-Deaf is a horror comedy that explores contemporary generational conflicts and the dangers of isolation. It was directed by Richard Bates Jr. and premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2019.
