Tommy Boy is a 1995 American comedy film directed by Peter Segal and starring Chris Farley and David Spade. The film follows the adventure of Tommy Callahan, a fun-loving and immature guy, who has just graduated from college but spends most of his time partying with his friends. Meanwhile, his father, the owner of a successful auto parts factory, suddenly dies, leaving Tommy the factory and half of the company shares.
When Tommy returns home to take over the family business, he quickly finds out that the factory is on the verge of bankruptcy and unless he can sell enough brake pads to cover the loan they took, the factory will have to be closed. With the help of Richard Hayden, a sarcastic and condescending accountant who initially loathes Tommy, the two set out on a cross-country sales trip to try to save the company.
As the two travel together, they face numerous obstacles such as breaking down on the side of the road, getting caught in a cow stampede, and surviving a car accident. Along the way, Tommy learns the importance of hard work, responsibility, and growing up, while Richard learns how to have fun and enjoy life.
The movie is full of hilarious one-liners, physical comedy, and heartwarming moments. Farley’s over-the-top performance as Tommy and Spade’s deadpan delivery as Richard make for a perfect comedy duo. The film ends with Tommy successfully selling enough brake pads to save the factory and the company, and he and Richard returning home as friends. Tommy Boy has become a beloved classic among comedy fans and a memorable tribute to the late Chris Farley’s talent.
