Tomboy is a French drama film directed by Céline Sciamma. The movie revolves around a 10-year-old girl named Laure, who moves to a new neighborhood with her family during the summer. When Laure meets a group of kids, she decides to masquerade as a boy named Mickaël. The kids accept her as one of their own, and she spends most of her days playing football, climbing trees, and having fun with her new friends.
As Mickaël, Laure feels more comfortable and confident in her skin than she ever has before. However, her secret eventually gets out, and she must navigate the challenges of being accepted as a girl again. The movie explores themes of gender identity, adolescence, and self-discovery.
The film has received positive reviews for its sensitive portrayal of a young girl coming to terms with her identity. It premiered at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival and won the Teddy Award for Best LGBT-themed feature film.
