The movie is set in Rome and consists of four interconnected stories. The first story follows John (Alec Baldwin), an American architect who is spending his vacation in Rome. John's advice to Jack is based on his own past experiences, which helps Jack gain a new perspective on his relationship with Sally.

Jerry sees an opportunity to reclaim his former glory by taking Giancarlo under his wing and staging an opera.
The third story follows Leopoldo (Roberto Benigni), an average man who suddenly becomes famous for no apparent reason. He becomes the subject of paparazzi attention and finds himself constantly in the media spotlight, which affects his family life and his personal relationships.
The fourth story follows a young couple, Antonio (Alessandro Tiberi) and Milly (Alessandra Mastronardi), who arrive in Rome from the countryside. They have separate romantic interludes and face various adventures and misadventures throughout their stay in Rome.
