Tin Men is a comedy-drama film directed by Barry Levinson that takes place in 1963 Baltimore, where the rivalry between two aluminum siding salesmen, Bill "BB" Babowsky (played by Richard Dreyfuss) and Ernest Tilley (Danny DeVito), is at an all-time high.
One morning while driving, BB and Tilley get into a minor car collision, leading to a heated argument and a subsequent prank war between the two. Along the way, they both encounter a variety of interesting characters, from BB's wife (played by Barbara Hershey) to a group of Korean War veterans who both salesmen try to sell siding to.
As the rivalry between BB and Tilley escalates, they both put their careers, relationships, and sanity on the line to try and one-up each other. The film's themes center around the American dream, competition, and the lengths people will go to be successful.
The humor of the movie comes from the odd situations and dialogue that ensue from the rivalry between two over-the-top characters. The film was well-received upon its release, with many praising the chemistry between Dreyfuss and DeVito and the film's unique take on the competition between salespeople.
