Crime  Italy,France

Time of the Wolves (Le Temps des loups) is a French crime drama film released in 1969, directed by Sergio Gobbi. The film was shot in black and white, and its story is based on the true story of the American criminal, John Dillinger. The movie follows a young gangster, Manu (Robert Hossein), who is on the run from the police after committing several robberies.

The movie opens with Manu robbing a bank in Paris, and the subsequent chase with the police which leads to the death of one of the police officers. Manu then meets his girlfriend Stella (Virna Lisi) and while they are on the run, Manu is tracked by his childhood friend, inspector Blot (Charles Aznavour).

Blot knows Manu better than anyone else and is determined to catch him, but he does not want to see his friend hurt or killed in the process. Along the way, Blot and Manu engage in a psychological game of cat and mouse while Stella and Manu also try to make sense of their own relationship.

As Manu becomes aware of the police's increasing presence, he starts to become more desperate and violent, leading to a climactic shootout in the streets of Paris where several bystanders are caught in the crossfire. The public outcry against Manu grows and soon a lynch mob is sent to capture him.

Time of the Wolves is a gripping crime drama that explores the complexities of love, loyalty, and betrayal. The film features excellent performances from its cast and gives a vivid portrayal of a time period where the line between law and criminality was often blurred.
