Time of the Gypsies follows the life of Perhan, a young Romany man living in a small village in the former Yugoslavia. He has a gift for telekinesis, which is both feared and revered by his fellow Romani. When he falls in love with a girl named Azra, he decides to use his powers to help his family and community.

Perhan's uncle, Ahmed, introduces him to a life of petty crime and fraud, promising him quick riches. Perhan is hesitant at first, but he soon realizes that he needs money to marry Azra and take care of his sick sister. As he becomes more involved in Ahmed's schemes, he begins to lose sight of his values and the people he loves.

The film is a powerful exploration of the Romani community, their traditions, and their struggles in a society that discriminates against them. It also portrays how poverty, greed, and corruption can lead individuals astray, even those with good intentions.

Time of the Gypsies was directed by Emir Kusturica and won several awards, including the Best Director award at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival. It has been praised for its beautiful cinematography, authentic depiction of Romani culture, and strong performances by its cast.
