The recent widow is named Katherine (played by Alison Sweeney) and she is struggling to get into the holiday spirit after losing her husband. Her son, Jack, convinces her to take a trip to their Virginia hometown to try and find some joy in the season. Along the way, they meet a man named Jack (played by Lucas Bryant) who is also heading to the same destination.
As they continue to travel together, Katherine and Jack begin to bond over their shared love of Christmas and family traditions. Jack also helps Katherine and her son navigate their grief and find hope for the future.
Once they arrive in Virginia, they discover that Jack is actually an old friend of Katherine's from high school. The two reconnect and their friendship blossoms into something more as they realize how much they care for each other.
However, Katherine is hesitant to start a new relationship so soon after her husband's death. She ultimately decides to take a chance on love and invites Jack to spend Christmas with her and her son. The movie ends with the family enjoying a magical Christmas together, filled with love and hope for the future.
