In Thunder Force, two lifelong friends, Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) and Lydia Berman (Melissa McCarthy), are reunited in their 40s after years of separation. Emily is a brilliant scientist and CEO of a biotech company, while Lydia is a blue-collar worker who has struggled to find a steady job.

Emily has developed a treatment that gives ordinary people superpowers, but she needs a test subject. Lydia volunteers, and the treatment gives her the ability to become super strong. Emily, however, accidentally injects herself with the treatment and gains the power of invisibility.

The two friends decide to use their new abilities to protect their city from the rampant supervillains that terrorize it. Their mission is complicated by the fact that Lydia is impulsive and reckless while Emily is cautious and methodical.

As they fight against the powerful villains, they also confront their own personal issues. Lydia blames Emily for their past falling out, and Emily reveals a painful secret about why she became a scientist. Along the way, they both learn to appreciate each other and work together.

Thunder Force is a comedy that features a diverse cast of characters, including Bobby Cannavale as the villainous "King," Jason Bateman as a crab-man love interest for Lydia, and Pom Klementieff as a superpowered henchwoman. It is directed by Ben Falcone, Melissa McCarthy's husband, and features their signature brand of humor.
