The protagonist, played by Tilda Swinton, is a successful but unhappy author who has lived a solitary life. She travels to Istanbul for research on her latest book and stumbles upon an ancient bottle in a museum. After opening it, she unleashes a djinn (played by Idris Elba) who offers her three wishes.
However, the djinn is not what she expects. He is bitter and resentful towards humans, having been trapped in the bottle for three thousand years. As the woman struggles to come up with a wish that will make her happy, the djinn tells her stories of his past and his experiences with humans.
Through his stories, she begins to feel empathy for him and a longing for human connection. She wishes for love and companionship, opening herself up to the possibility of a happier life. However, as the djinn grants her wish, he becomes increasingly resentful, and she must navigate the consequences of her choices.
The film explores themes of loneliness, connection, and the consequences of our desires. Directed by George Miller, known for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road, it promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience.
